Parent-Teacher Association

Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Great Wall Chinese School
What is the PTA?

The PTA of GWCS is run by an executive committee, which is consisted with all the class parent representatives and some PTA officers. As parents and teachers of GWCS, you are entitled the free membership of the PTA.

Currently our PTA is not part of the national Parent/Teacher Association that strives to enhance children’s educational experiences. As a member does not mean you automatically sign up to volunteer, it just means you support PTA and believe in what we’re doing. The PTA not only supports the School’s philosophy, programs and activities for the benefit of ALL students but also enriches social life of the GWCS community.

Become a PTA Volunteer. Why YOU should get involved!

As you can see, we are a busy group. This is where you can come in! We need your help, and so do your children. Over 500 independent studies on parent involvement show that when parents get involved in their children’s education grades go up, test scores improve, children are more likely to attend better schools after high school. Get involved TODAY!

Please contact with the PTA executive committee members or officers of
PTA indicate what events/activities interest you, and we’ll contact you to discuss it further. Stop by to see all of our volunteer opportunities! Volunteering doesn’t have to mean a huge time commitment. We understand it is increasingly more difficult to find time to give, but please, whatever your time schedule allows, we have need of you. We even have tasks that can be performed in the evenings, during the day or that don’t even involve coming to the school at all.

Parent On Duty

Nevertheless performing parent-on-duty (POD) is MANDATORY determined by the School Board. The following is the school policy regarding POD and instruction on how to schedule POD in the registration system:

1. Parents whose kids register in the following language classes need to perform two sessions (total 4 hours) of POD per semester: all classes of Chinese language, including SAT (math and others), excluding Pre-K, KD classes and adult language classes. The definition of tasks for POD could be vary as needed, please check with POD admin team at school for details.

2. How to schedule POD: All parents please use the following POD sign-up form at the time of your registration for a semester:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1y6x0CWZoEA8JsN46m-GkE3Kbm1weVNDkKdkGCD9d-E0/edit

This sign-up form will be operating independently from the current class registration platform. It provides drop-down boxes to secure the time and tasks of your POD selection. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by the POD desk or ask any School Board members. Thank you for your cooperation.

3. Once scheduled, please remember the date and time. We might send a reminder to you a week before the duty is due.

4. Parents who perform POD should report to school officer on-duty on Sundays before and after the duty (by signing in/out on a POD list sheet) as the school officer-on-duty will record who completes POD in the data base.

In conclusion

We’re about Chinese school families working together toward a common goal. That goal, simply stated, is creating a better school and a better educational experience for our children and better social experience for OURSELVIES. We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers, administrators, and support staff can do their best work – and so can our children and ourselves. There is so much more that can be done and we need your help. We look forward to meeting you!
